Zoom on the A-iPower SUA9000E

To sum up, the A-iPower SUA9000E is a portable generator tailored for:

  • Food van owners who know that just a short power outage could lose them hundreds of dollars
  • Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
  • Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure

The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.

Power & Run Time

The A-iPower SUA9000E's engine, 420 cc (14 hp) A-iPower OHV 4-stroke, fueled by gasoline, can deliver 120/240V. It provides a running wattage of 7,250W and reaches a peak wattage of 9,000W.

The generator, rated for a noise of 76 dBA (less noisy than a shower), provides flexibility in starting, offering both a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and an easy-to-use and reliable electric starter (battery included).

The SUA9000E can operate for around 8.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.82 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 7 gallons.

Outlets

The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle

Additionally, it offers 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease.

This A-iPower generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. However, it is still not quite RV ready. Besides, with its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the SUA9000E is configured to be transfer switch ready, allowing straightforward connection to your breaker box to supply backup power to your home during outages.

Portability

Measuring L27.5 x W26 x H26 in, the classic open frame construction of the A-iPower SUA9000E provides stability while enabling convenient maintenance access to components and adequate air cooling. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.

While weighing 201.7 lbs, the generator is classified as 'portable,' indicating its mobility, albeit its heftiness may limit portability in specific situations. Nevertheless, the restricted maneuverability is counteracted by its wheel kit (⌀9") and its folding handle, enabling easy shifting once the generator is set in place.

Features

The SUA9000E's control panel

The control panel of the SUA9000E includes a digital data center, which assists you in monitoring its status and activity, as it provides information on the lifetime run hours.

In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will notify you if its oil levels are insufficient.

Equipped with a built-in fuel gauge, the generator facilitates swift gas level checks.

In terms of security, the generator features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during its use.

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the A-iPower SUA9000E also comes with several accessories, including: tool kit, oil and battery charging cables.

The A-iPower SUA9000E versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA9000E compare to generators of similar power (between 6500 and 7500 W).

  • With a dry weight of 201.7 pounds, the A-iPower SUA9000E finds itself in the expected weight range for generators able to produce between 6500 and 7500 rated watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Champion 201515, with a dry weight of just 121.3 pounds.
  • Since the generator's noise is rated at 76 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Westinghouse iGen8200TFc. With just 60 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • As for its autonomy, the SUA9000E, with an autonomy of around 8.5 hours at a 50% load, is placed on the low end among the generators of its kind. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Firman H07553, boasting with around 12 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This generator is not fuel-efficient compared to devices of similar output: its estimated fuel consumption stands at 0.82 GPH at a 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Ford FG7750BiSRCO, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.5 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
