Description

The A-iPower SUA6000ED Dual Fuel, is ideal for the construction jobsite or as back-up power for your home during emergencies when gasoline is not available.

Zoom on the A-iPower SUA6000ED

In a nutshell, the A-iPower SUA6000ED is a portable generator mostly geared towards:

  • RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
  • People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
  • Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
  • Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
  • Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The dual-fuel technology of the A-iPower SUA6000ED allows for an output of 120/240V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 5,500W and a starting wattage of 6,000W. If propane-powered, it gives 5,000 rated watts and 5,500 starting watts.

A-iPower’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.

Enjoying a noise rating of 78 dBA (less noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator can be started thanks to a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also to a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

The running time of the SUA6000ED, with its 4 gallons fuel capacity, can reach around 6.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.62 GPH). With propane, it can reach around 5 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.94 GPH).

The quite high THD (<20%) of the SUA6000ED makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle

It also sports 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.

Because the SUA6000ED is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.

Portability

The A-iPower SUA6000ED has the following dimensions: L24.4 x W18.9 x H22.5 in. In combination with its conventional, open frame design, they provide support and allow the generator to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 157.7 lbs. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit (⌀7.5") and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

Features

The SUA6000ED's control panel

A digital data center, one of the features of the SUA6000ED's control panel, gives you information on the lifetime run hours, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.

In addition to this info, a light indicator shows you if the oil level is too low.

Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the A-iPower SUA6000ED also comes with several accessories, including: battery charger, propane hose and oil.

Emissions

The A-iPower SUA6000ED is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The A-iPower SUA6000ED versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA6000ED compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 5000 and 6000 W).

  • Having a dry weight of 157.7 lbs, the A-iPower SUA6000ED belongs in the expected weight range for dual fuel generators which produce 5000 to 6000 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Genmax GM6000iED, weighing just 117.9 pounds.
  • As this generator has its lowest possible noise of 78 dBA, it should be considered noisier compared to its peers of a comparable running wattage. If you are concerned with noise, check out the Pulsar PGDA70BiSCO, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 62 dBA.
  • The SUA6000ED's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its type and power range, as it reaches only around 6.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Firman H05751, with around 12 hours.
  • Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. In fact, this generator is not among the most fuel efficient, within the aforementioned wattage range : its estimated gasoline consumption at 50% load is around 0.62 GPH. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Pulsar PGDA70BiSCO, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.42 GPH, may be the right generator for you.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 5000-6000W dual fuel generators, the A-iPower SUA6000ED is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
