Zoom on the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP
To sum up, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP is a portable inverter generator tailored for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
Delivering 120V, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP is enhanced by dual-fuel technology, providing power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 3,500W and a starting wattage of 3,800W. Alternatively, when propane-powered, it delivers 3,200 running watts and 3,500 starting watts. In addition, the device is parallel capable (parallel kit not included) and thus, can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for added power.
A-iPower’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.
The inverter generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism and also a no-fuss and convenient electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 63 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music). Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the SUA3800iEDP can also be remotely started (key fob included).
Concerning its running time, the SUA3800iEDP, featuring a 2.6 gallons fuel tank, can continuously run for up to 12 hours with a full gasoline tank (consuming fuel at approximately 0.22 gallons per hour). Alternatively, when utilizing propane, it offers up to 16 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.29 GPH) of runtime.
The SUA3800iEDP ensures a clean sine wave output, boasting <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) to protect your sensitive electronics when connected to its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
In addition, it provides 1 DC outlet: there's a 5V USB port (USB-A) ideal for charging various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets.
This A-iPower generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included). However, it is still not quite RV ready.
Portability
With an inverter generator design, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP features a closed construction (L24 x W19 x H22 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring reduced noise levels, offering a distinct advantage over standard, open frame generators. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Since the generator weighs 121 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, its challenging mobility is solved by its set of 2 wheels and its telecospic handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
Features
Embedded in the control panel of the SUA3800iEDP, a digital data center serves as a vital feature, offering comprehensive information on the lifetime run hours, power output, frequency, fuel level and voltage to aid in monitoring activity and status.
In addition to this info, the device's light indicators will illuminate to indicate if the generator is on overload, the oil level is too low and the generator is ready.
The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the inverter generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.
As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to facilitate setup, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP features extra accessories: key fob, funnel, tool kit, RV adapter, oil and propane hose.

The A-iPower SUA3800iEDP versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3000 and 4000 W).
- Weighing 121 lbs, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP is one of the heavier inverter generators within the 3000-4000 rated wattage bracket. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, weighing just 46 pounds.
- At 63 dBA, this inverter generator's noise rating is in line with the expected average for devices within its type and power category. If you wish to prioritize minimal noise, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF stands out as one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, with a rating of 52 dBA.
- Regarding its runtime, the SUA3800iEDP operates for up to 12 hours at a 25% load, positioning it at the lower spectrum among comparable inverters. If run time is one of your main concerns, the Firman W03661OF could be worth looking at. It boasts one of the highest run times among units of comparable power, lasting up to 25 hours.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. This inverter generator has an estimated fuel consumption of roughly 0.22 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, rendering it somewhat average compared to devices of a similar output. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the Energizer eZV3500P, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.13 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3000-4000W dual fuel inverter generators, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
You did not refer to the propane interface which is the main use. Runtime increases dramatically on propane. When this is factored in beats the other units you mentioned.
