Description
Zoom on the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP
In a nutshell, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP is a portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Amateur DIY lovers
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 3,500W and a starting wattage of 3,800W. If propane-powered, it gives 3,200 rated watts and 3,500 starting watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (parallel kit not included) enables power output to increase when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.
A-iPower’s Switch On Demand technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.
The inverter generator features a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism and also a no-fuss and convenient electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 63 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation). Additionally, the SUA3800iEDP may be remotely started, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
The running time of the SUA3800iEDP, with its 2.6 gallons fuel capacity, can reach up to 12 hours on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.22 GPH). With propane, it can reach up to 16 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.29 GPH).
The SUA3800iEDP produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
It also sports 1 DC outlet: there's a 5V USB port (USB-A) ensuring convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets, for connectivity on the go.
While this A-iPower generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included).
Portability
Since the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP is an inverter generator, its closed design (L24 x W19 x H22 in) not only provides an aesthetic advantage but also contributes to reduced noise levels compared to conventional, open frame devices. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
While technically classified as 'portable' due to its ability to be moved, the 121 lbs of this generator make manual lifting and transportation incredibly difficult. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its set of 2 wheels (⌀6") and its telescopic handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
Features
With a digital data center integrated into its control panel, the SUA3800iEDP provides real-time insights into the lifetime run hours, frequency, power output, voltage and fuel level, enabling easy monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will signal if the generator is ready, its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is overloaded.
A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the inverter generator.
Considering security aspects, the generator boasts an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), offering peace of mind throughout operation.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP also is packed along with the following accessories: propane hose, oil, key fob, funnel, tool kit and RV adapter.

The A-iPower SUA3800iEDP versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3000 and 4000 W).
- Weighing 121 lbs, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP is one of the heavier inverter generators within the 3000-4000 rated wattage bracket. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, with a dry weight of just 46 pounds.
- Given its rated noise level of 63 dBA, this inverter generator aligns with the average expected noise rating for devices of similar type and power. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Westinghouse iGen5000DF with only 52 dBA.
- Regarding its autonomy, the autonomy of the SUA3800iEDP, reaching up to 12 hours at a 25% load, can be considered as low end, compared to other inverters of a roughly equal output. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Firman WH03662OF, which is able to run for up to 25 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. This inverter generator is somewhat less fuel-efficient than devices of comparable output: its estimated fuel consumption reaches 0.22 GPH at a 25% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Champion 201050, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.15 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3000-4000W dual fuel inverter generators, the A-iPower SUA3800iEDP is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
You did not refer to the propane interface which is the main use. Runtime increases dramatically on propane. When this is factored in beats the other units you mentioned.
