Description
Zoom on the A-iPower SUA3800i
In a few words, the A-iPower SUA3800i is a portable inverter generator perfectly suited for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Amateur DIY lovers
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the A-iPower SUA3800i utilizes a 223 cc (7 hp) Senci OHV 4-stroke engine to deliver 120V, offering a running wattage of 3,500W and a starting wattage of 3,800W. Furthermore, its parallel capability (IPBS8000 parallel kit not included) allows power output to increase when connected to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
Operating at a noise rating of 63 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation), this inverter generator starts up with a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism.
With its 2.6 gallons fuel tank, the SUA3800i can operate for up to 12 hours when fully fueled (with fuel usage averaging around 0.22 GPH).
Thanks to its low <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the SUA3800i produces a clean sine wave output, making it safe for your sensitive electronics when utilizing the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features 3 AC outlets as follows:
It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's a 5V USB port (USB-A) ensuring convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets, for connectivity on the go and a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease.
While this A-iPower generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included).
Portability
As the A-iPower SUA3800i is an inverter generator, its encased design (L24 x W19 x H22 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
With a weight of 121 lbs, the generator is still labeled as 'portable,' denoting its ability to be moved, although its heaviness might restrict easy portability. Nonetheless, the limited maneuverability is compensated for by utilizing its set of 2 wheels (⌀6") and its telecospic handle, which facilitates shifting once the generator is set on the ground.
Features
The SUA3800i's control panel is equipped with a digital data center, furnishing detailed information on the power output, fuel level, voltage and lifetime run hours for you to easily track its activity and status.
In addition to this info, when its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is on overload and the generator is ready, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.
Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the A-iPower SUA3800i is bundled with additional accessories: battery charging cables, oil, RV adapter, funnel and tool kit.

The A-iPower SUA3800i versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA3800i compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3000 and 4000 W).
- Weighing in at 121 lbs, the A-iPower SUA3800i is one of the heavier inverter generators available in the 3000-4000 rated wattage segment. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 46 pounds.
- This inverter generator has a somewhat average expected noise for its type and power range, rated at 63 dBA. If noise level is one your key decisive factors, you may find the Westinghouse iGen5000DF appealing. It's rated at 52 dBA, making it one of the quietest generators in its power range.
- Regarding its autonomy, the SUA3800i can run for up to 12 hours at a 25% load, aligning it with the lower performers in its type and power range. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Firman W03661OF, as it provides up to 25 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. With a fuel usage of about 0.22 GPH at a 25% load, this inverter generator falls within the typical gasoline consumption range observed in comparably powerful products. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Energizer eZV3500P, with a fuel consumption of 0.13 GPH could be in your good books.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3000-4000W inverter generators, the A-iPower SUA3800i is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
Opted for this generator solely on price comparison. Mostly constantly running a 5000 btu generator and lights during the summer with no appreciable increased load on the motor. Overall it is quiet enough for conversation standing right next to it in eco mode. Certainly it is not ultra quiet like a Honda would be. But considering the price difference, this is a satisfactory compromise for those unwilling to take the Honda plunge.
