Description
Zoom on the A-iPower SUA2301iD
In short, the A-iPower SUA2301iD is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed.
Power & Run Time
Featuring dual-fuel technology, the A-iPower SUA2301iD provides 120V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 1,800W and a starting wattage of 2,300W. When propane-powered, it offers 1,600 running watts and 2,000 starting watts. In addition, the device is parallel capable (parallel kit included) and thus, can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for added power.
A-iPower’s Fuel Sense technology automatically selects the fuel source (LPG or gasoline) depending on availability and prioritizes LPG. Thus, if a propane tank with enough LPG is connected, the generator will automatically use LPG. If the propane cylinder valve is closed, or if there is not enough LPG remaining in the tank, the generator will use gasoline.
Featuring a noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a conversation at home), the inverter generator utilizes a simple traditional pull-start mechanism for ignition.
The running time of the SUA2301iD, with its 0.9 gallon fuel capacity, can reach up to 9 hours on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.1 GPH). Unfortunately, and despite our research efforts, we couldn't find any information regarding its runtime when using propane.
As the SUA2301iD produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), sensitive electronics may be plugged in the AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 3 AC outlets:
Moreover, it boasts 3 DC outlets: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle providing easy battery charging capabilities and two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) ideal for charging various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Despite not meeting the 'RV Ready' criteria, this A-iPower generator grants the advantage of simple RV compatibility via its L5-30R receptacle, enabling you to conveniently power your RV by using an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included).
Portability
As an inverter generator, the A-iPower SUA2301iD showcases a closed design (L21.5 x W12.8 x H21.1 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring quieter operation compared to conventional, open frame models. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Considered a lightweight portable generator, the SUA2301iD weighs just 46.2 lbs. With its manageable weight, one person can easily move it around, ensuring power wherever needed. Its telecospic handle adds to the convenience, making it easy to carry.
Features
With a digital data center integrated into its control panel, the SUA2301iD provides real-time insights into the frequency, fuel level, voltage, lifetime run hours and power output, enabling easy monitoring of its status and activity. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is on overload.
Considering security aspects, the generator boasts an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), offering peace of mind throughout operation.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the A-iPower SUA2301iD, the following accessories are also included: battery charging cables, oil, propane hose, funnel, RV adapter and tool kit.
The A-iPower SUA2301iD versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA2301iD compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 46.2 lbs, the A-iPower SUA2301iD belongs in the expected weight range for inverters which can produce between 1500 and 2500 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Genmax GM2000i, weighing just 34.2 pounds.
- With a lowest possible noise of 52 dBA, this inverter generator places itself amongst the more quiet of the products delivering similar power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may want to take a look at the Honda EU2200i. It's one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, rated at 48 dBA.
- Concerning its runtime, the SUA2301iD provides up to 9 hours at a 25% load, indicating that it falls on the lower side compared to other generators of its type and power range. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the DuroMax XP2300iH, reaching up to 13 hours.
- While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. With an estimated gasoline consumption of 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this inverter generator is among the more fuel-efficient of the products in the above-mentioned wattage range. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the Westinghouse iGen2800, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.08 gallons per hour.
