Zoom on the A-iPower SUA15000EC

In a nutshell, the A-iPower SUA15000EC is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure.

In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.

Power & Run Time

The A-iPower SUA15000EC in use

The A-iPower SUA15000EC

Running on gasoline, the A-iPower SUA15000EC operates with a 680 cc (24 hp) Senci V-Twin engine, delivering 120/240V, with a running wattage of 12,000W and a peak wattage of 15,000W.

With a noise rating of 85 dBA (just slightly more noisy than garbage disposal), the generator's ignition is facilitated by an easy-to-use and reliable electric starter (battery included).

Equipped with a 8 gallons fuel tank, the SUA15000EC ensures continuous operation for around 7 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel usage approximately 1.14 gallons per hour).

The SUA15000EC produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Additionally, it offers 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.

This A-iPower generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, because the SUA15000EC is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.

Portability

Measuring L38.7 x W26.8 x H34.9 in, the classic open frame construction of the A-iPower SUA15000EC provides stability while enabling convenient maintenance access to components and adequate air cooling. The generator is designed for outdoor use and demanding environments.

As the generator's weight is 392 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). However, the lack of maneuverability can be offset with its wheel kit (⌀4"), which allows for convenient shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.

A lift hook, which is on the top of the frame, serves as an extra safety feature for the transport, unloading and loading of the device.

Features

The SUA15000EC's control panel

For convenient monitoring of its status and activity, the control panel of the SUA15000EC includes a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.

In addition to this info, a light indicator serves to show you when its oil levels are insufficient.

Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.

From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the A-iPower SUA15000EC's package also includes these accessories: battery charging cables, oil and tool kit.

The A-iPower SUA15000EC versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA15000EC compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).

  • With its weight of 392 lbs, the A-iPower SUA15000EC is one of the heavier generators in the 10000-14000 rated wattage category. If you are mindful of weight, the Genmax GM12000XiT is among the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 194 pounds.
  • In comparison to generators with a similar running wattage, this generator's lowest emitted noise of 85 dBA can be considered noisy. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the Genmax GM13500iETC, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 62 dBA.
  • As for its runtime, the SUA15000EC runs for around 7 hours at a 50% load, placing it towards the low end among comparable products. If extended autonomy is what matters most to you, the WEN TF1450X could be an excellent choice, offering one of the longest run times among units in its power category, reaching around 12 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. When it comes to fuel efficiency among generators with similar wattage, this generator lags behind, with a consumption rate of 1.14 GPH at a 50% load. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the WEN TF1450X, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.68 gallons per hour.

The bottom line

STRENGTHS:
  • GFCI Outlets
  • 4 different AC outlet types

I wish I could find a natural gas conversion kit for this other than that it’s a real good generator just not very cheap on gas

    + PROS:
    • It runs my whole house even a 28,000 BTU window unit
    - CONS:
    • It burns about 8 gallons of gas and 7 hours at 50% usage
