Zoom on the A-iPower SUA15000EC

In summary, the A-iPower SUA15000EC is a powerful portable generator especially useful for professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working.

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The A-iPower SUA15000EC in use

The A-iPower SUA15000EC

The A-iPower SUA15000EC is powered by a 680 cc (24 hp) Senci V-Twin engine. It delivers 120/240V, runs on gasoline and offers a running wattage of 12,000W as well as a peak wattage of 15,000W.

Enjoying a noise rating of 85 dBA (just slightly more noisy than garbage disposal), this generator gets running thanks to a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).

Thanks to a fuel capacity of 8 gallons, the SUA15000EC can operate for around 7 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 1.14 GPH).

Delicate electronics can be plugged in an AC outlets safely, as the SUA15000EC generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

Outlets

The control panel features the following 5 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

In addition, it provides 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle allowing you to easily charge your batteries.

Even if this A-iPower generator isn't quite RV Ready, it still allows for an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor, thanks to its L5-30R receptacle. Besides, since the SUA15000EC bears a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it is easily connectible to a breaker box and can power your home in case of a power outage.

Portability

The A-iPower SUA15000EC has the following dimensions: L38.7 x W26.8 x H34.9 in. In combination with its conventional, open frame design, they provide support and allow the generator to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 392 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀4") can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Further safety during transport, loading and unloading of the device is provided by a lift hook, which is placed on the top of the generator's frame.

Features

The SUA15000EC's control panel

The SUA15000EC and its control panel include a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.

In addition to this info, a light indicator shows you if its oil levels are insufficient.

The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the A-iPower SUA15000EC also comes with some accessories: battery charging cables, tool kit and oil are included.

Emissions

The A-iPower SUA15000EC is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, which makes it suitable for use in forested areas.

The A-iPower SUA15000EC versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA15000EC compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).

  • As its dry weight is 392 pounds, the A-iPower SUA15000EC is one of the heavier of the products which can generate 10000 to 14000 running watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, standing at just 218 lbs.
  • This generator, with its lowest possible noise rated at 85 dBA falls into the more noisy category, compared to other devices of a similar running wattage. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 69 dBA.
  • Autonomy-wise, with around 7 hours on a full tank at a 50% load, the SUA15000EC is on the low end when compared to other generators of a similar power output. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Powerhorse 13000ES, boasting with around 15 hours.
  • Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. Compared to its peers, this generator is not exactly fuel efficient, compared to similarly powerful devices, with an estimated fuel consumption of 1.14 GPH at a 50% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, with a fuel consumption of 0.78 GPH could be in your good books.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 10000-14000W generators, the A-iPower SUA15000EC is on the expensive side of the price range.

While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

I wish I could find a natural gas conversion kit for this other than that it’s a real good generator just not very cheap on gas

    + PROS:
    • It runs my whole house even a 28,000 BTU window unit
    - CONS:
    • It burns about 8 gallons of gas and 7 hours at 50% usage
