Zoom on the A-iPower SUA12000E

In a few words, the A-iPower SUA12000E is a powerful portable generator perfectly suited for:

  • Small homeowners in search of a full power backup solution
  • Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment
  • Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
  • RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.

Power & Run Time

The A-iPower SUA12000E in use

The A-iPower SUA12000E

Featuring a 459 cc (16 hp) A-iPower OHV 4-stroke engine with cast iron sleeve, the A-iPower SUA12000E operates using gasoline, providing 120/240V, with a running wattage of 9,000W and a starting wattage of 12,000W.

At a noise rating of 78 dBA (less noisy than a shower), this generator provides the choice between a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism or a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included) for starting.

The SUA12000E boasts a fuel tank capable of holding 7 gallons, allowing it to run continuously for around 9 hours at 50% load (with fuel usage averaging around 0.78 gallons per hour).

Given the SUA12000E's high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 23%, it is advisable to avoid using it to power sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Moreover, it comes equipped with 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle offering a convenient battery charging option.

With its 14-50R outlet, this A-iPower unit is RV-ready for owners with a 50-amp service in their RVs. In addition, because the SUA12000E is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.

Portability

At L27.6 x W27 x H26.8 in, the standard open frame design of the A-iPower SUA12000E delivers stability alongside easy maintenance access to components and good air cooling. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

Though weighing 206 lbs, the generator remains classified as 'portable,' indicating its capability to be moved, though its weight could pose transport challenges. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀9.5") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Features

The SUA12000E's control panel

Monitoring of the SUA12000E's status and activity is made possible by a digital data center, which provides information on the lifetime run hours and is one of the features of its control panel.

In addition to this info, when its oil levels are insufficient, you will be informed by the featured light indicator.

Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.

From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.

Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the A-iPower SUA12000E is bundled with additional accessories: tool kit, battery charging cables and oil.

The A-iPower SUA12000E versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA12000E compare to generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).

  • Regarding its weight, the A-iPower SUA12000E only weighs in at 206 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter generators in the 8500-9500 rated wattage range. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, with a dry weight of just 187.4 pounds.
  • When compared to other units producing a similar running wattage, this generator and its lowest emitted noise of 78 dBA stand out for being on the louder side. If you are concerned with noise, check out the DuroMax XP11000iH, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 61 dBA.
  • The SUA12000E provides around 9 hours of runtime at a 50% load on a full tank, placing it within the average autonomy range among similar generators. If you wish to prioritize autonomy, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling around 12 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. Standing at an estimated 0.78 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, this generator is somewhat average in this area compared to other devices, within the aforementioned wattage range. If you're placing a high priority on fuel consumption, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, with a low fuel consumption rate of 0.66 GPH, could be an option to consider.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: A-iPower SUA12000E vs A-iPower SUA12000ED.

I like the design. Price was a little high since no one had them in stock. Alot cheaper now.

    + PROS:
    • Reliable so far. Easy to start. Powers everything in my house including the well an the a/c. And barely a surge
    - CONS:
    • Uses 7 gallons of gas in 6 hours according to the manual. So i keep 20 gallons in my shed. Bought it from northern and got robbed. Said they had it in stock. But it never directly from them. It was 10days late and i took off work since they said i had to help unload. Not part of the shipping.
