Power & Run Time

The A-iPower SUA12000E in use

The A-iPower SUA12000E

The A-iPower SUA12000E houses a 459 cc (16 hp) A-iPower OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120/240V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 9,000W along with a peak wattage of 12,000W.

Enjoying a noise rating of 78 dBA (less noisy than a shower), this generator can be started thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also to a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

The SUA12000E can operate for around 9 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.78 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 7 gallons.

Since the SUA12000E has a high THD (<23%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Furthermore, it has 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease.

If you own an RV with a 50-amp service, you can consider this A-iPower unit as RV-ready, as it features a 14-50R outlet. In addition, because the SUA12000E is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.

Portability

The design of the A-iPower SUA12000E is a typical, open frame, with the dimensions of L27.6 x W27 x H26.8 in, offering support and stability and enabling the possibility of raising it above ground level. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.

Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 206 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit (⌀9.5") and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

Features

The SUA12000E's control panel

The control panel of the SUA12000E includes a digital data center, which assists you in monitoring its status and activity, as it provides information on the lifetime run hours.

In addition to this info, a light indicator allows you to instantly see if the oil level is too low.

The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.

As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the A-iPower SUA12000E also comes with some accessories: battery charging cables, oil and tool kit are included.

Emissions

The A-iPower SUA12000E is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.

However, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The A-iPower SUA12000E versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA12000E compare to generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).

  • As for its weight, the A-iPower SUA12000E weighs only 206 pounds, making it one of the lighter generators in the 8500-9500 rated wattage category. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc with only 187.4 pounds.
  • If compared to generators capable of producing a similar running wattage, this generator with a lowest emitted noise of 78 dBA can be considered somewhat noisy. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the Pulsar PGD105TiSCO, whose lowest noise levels reach just 62 dBA.
  • Offering around 9 hours of running time on a full tank at 50% load, the SUA12000E is within the average autonomy range of similarly powerful generators. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, boasting with around 12 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This generator can be considered as fuel efficient, due to its low estimated fuel consumption of only 0.78 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, within the aforementioned wattage range. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.66 GPH, may be the right generator for you.

I like the design. Price was a little high since no one had them in stock. Alot cheaper now.

    + PROS:
    • Reliable so far. Easy to start. Powers everything in my house including the well an the a/c. And barely a surge
    - CONS:
    • Uses 7 gallons of gas in 6 hours according to the manual. So i keep 20 gallons in my shed. Bought it from northern and got robbed. Said they had it in stock. But it never directly from them. It was 10days late and i took off work since they said i had to help unload. Not part of the shipping.
