  • Prudent homeowners who want a backup power source in case of a power outage
  • Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
  • Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials

Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.

Power & Run Time

The A-iPower SUA12000E in use

The A-iPower SUA12000E

A-iPower SUA12000E is equipped with a 459 cc (16 hp) A-iPower OHV 4-stroke engine, running on gasoline and providing 120/240V, boasting a running wattage of 9,000W alongside a starting wattage of 12,000W.

Enjoying a noise rating of 78 dBA (less noisy than a dishwasher), this generator can be started thanks to a manual recoil starter system, but also to a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included).

Equipped with a 7 gallons fuel tank, the SUA12000E ensures continuous operation for around 9 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel usage approximately 0.78 gallons per hour).

The quite high THD (<23%) of the SUA12000E makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Moreover, it comes equipped with 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease.

For RV owners with a 50-amp service, this A-iPower unit is RV-ready, boasting a 14-50R outlet. In addition, since the SUA12000E bears a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it is easily connectible to a breaker box and can power your home in case of a power outage.

Portability

At L27.6 x W27 x H26.8 in, the A-iPower SUA12000E boasts a traditional open frame structure, ensuring stability and allowing for convenient maintenance access to components, promoting air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.

While weighing 206 lbs, the generator is classified as 'portable,' indicating its mobility, albeit its heftiness may limit portability in specific situations. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its wheel kit (⌀9.5") and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.

Features

The SUA12000E's control panel

Embedded in the control panel of the SUA12000E, a digital data center serves as a vital feature, offering comprehensive information on the lifetime run hours to aid in monitoring activity and status.

In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will signal if the oil level is too low.

Equipped with a built-in fuel gauge, the generator facilitates swift gas level checks.

Regarding security, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during operation.

In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the A-iPower SUA12000E also includes several accessories: tool kit, oil and battery charging cables.

The A-iPower SUA12000E versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA12000E compare to generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).

  • As far as its dry weight is concerned, the A-iPower SUA12000E weighs just 206 pounds and thus, it is one of the lighter 8500 to 9500 rated wattage generators. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 187.4 pounds.
  • When compared to other units producing a similar running wattage, this generator and its lowest emitted noise of 78 dBA stand out for being on the louder side. If you value reduced noise levels, the DuroMax XP11000iH could be worth considering. It's one of the quietest generators in its power range, rated at 61 dBA.
  • With a runtime of around 9 hours under a 50% load on a full tank, the SUA12000E falls within the average autonomy range among the generators of a similar power. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting around 12 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.78 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, this generator is a rather fuel-efficient one within its wattage category. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.66 gallons per hour.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: A-iPower SUA12000E vs A-iPower SUA12000ED.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 8500-9500W generators, the A-iPower SUA12000E is on the cheap side of the price range.

I like the design. Price was a little high since no one had them in stock. Alot cheaper now.

    + PROS:
    • Reliable so far. Easy to start. Powers everything in my house including the well an the a/c. And barely a surge
    - CONS:
    • Uses 7 gallons of gas in 6 hours according to the manual. So i keep 20 gallons in my shed. Bought it from northern and got robbed. Said they had it in stock. But it never directly from them. It was 10days late and i took off work since they said i had to help unload. Not part of the shipping.
