Description
Zoom on the A-iPower SUA12000E
In a nutshell, the A-iPower SUA12000E is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards:
- Prudent homeowners who want a backup power source in case of a power outage
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
A-iPower SUA12000E is equipped with a 459 cc (16 hp) A-iPower OHV 4-stroke engine, running on gasoline and providing 120/240V, boasting a running wattage of 9,000W alongside a starting wattage of 12,000W.
Enjoying a noise rating of 78 dBA (less noisy than a dishwasher), this generator can be started thanks to a manual recoil starter system, but also to a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included).
Equipped with a 7 gallons fuel tank, the SUA12000E ensures continuous operation for around 9 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel usage approximately 0.78 gallons per hour).
The quite high THD (<23%) of the SUA12000E makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:
Moreover, it comes equipped with 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease.
For RV owners with a 50-amp service, this A-iPower unit is RV-ready, boasting a 14-50R outlet. In addition, since the SUA12000E bears a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it is easily connectible to a breaker box and can power your home in case of a power outage.
Portability
At L27.6 x W27 x H26.8 in, the A-iPower SUA12000E boasts a traditional open frame structure, ensuring stability and allowing for convenient maintenance access to components, promoting air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
While weighing 206 lbs, the generator is classified as 'portable,' indicating its mobility, albeit its heftiness may limit portability in specific situations. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its wheel kit (⌀9.5") and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
Embedded in the control panel of the SUA12000E, a digital data center serves as a vital feature, offering comprehensive information on the lifetime run hours to aid in monitoring activity and status.
In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will signal if the oil level is too low.
Equipped with a built-in fuel gauge, the generator facilitates swift gas level checks.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during operation.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the A-iPower SUA12000E also includes several accessories: tool kit, oil and battery charging cables.

The A-iPower SUA12000E versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SUA12000E compare to generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).
- Weight-wise, the A-iPower SUA12000E has only 206 lbs, which renders it one of the lighter generators which produce 8500 to 9500 rated watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 187.4 pounds.
- When comparing it to devices with a similar running wattage, this generator's lowest noise level of 78 dBA puts it alongside the noisier units. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the DuroMax XP11000iH, whose lowest noise levels reach just 61 dBA.
- The SUA12000E's runtime of around 9 hours at a 50% load on a full tank positions it within the average autonomy range compared to other generators with similar power. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, reaching around 12 hours.
- The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This generator, with an estimated fuel consumption of just 0.78 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, is one of the more fuel-efficient generators, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.66 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 8500-9500W generators, the A-iPower SUA12000E is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
- Inexpensive
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Electric start
- Lightweight for its kind (206 lbs)
- Fuel efficient
- Decent run time
- No remote start
- On the noisy side (78 dBA)
