Zoom on the A-iPower SC2500i

In summary, the A-iPower SC2500i is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator especially useful for:

  • Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
  • Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go
  • RV travellers looking for even more independence

Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.

Power & Run Time

The A-iPower SC2500i

A-iPower SC2500i runs on gasoline, powered by a 80 cc Yamaha OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, boasting a running wattage of 2,000W alongside a starting wattage of 2,500W. In addition, the parallel capability (parallel kit included) empowers doubling of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.

With a noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb), the inverter generator's starting mechanism is centered around a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism.

Featuring a 1.1 gallon fuel tank, the SC2500i provides continuous power for up to 9 hours on a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.12 GPH).

As the SC2500i produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), sensitive electronics may be plugged in the AC outlets safely.

Outlets

The control panel is equipped with the following 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle

In addition, it provides 3 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) perfect for conveniently charging mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices and a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.

Despite not meeting the 'RV Ready' criteria, this A-iPower generator grants the advantage of simple RV compatibility via its L5-30R receptacle, enabling you to conveniently power your RV by using an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included).

Portability

The A-iPower SC2500i's characteristic encased inverter generator design (L21.7 x W14 x H20.9 in) provides an aesthetic advantage and contributes to quieter operation compared to any ordinary, open frame product. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.

Weighing just 49.9 lbs, the SC2500i can be considered a lightweight portable generator. It's easy for one person to move around, ensuring power availability on the move. In addition, a telescopic handle lets you carry it easily and further increases its convenience.

Features

The SC2500i's control panel

A digital data center, one of the features of the SC2500i's control panel, gives you information on the lifetime run hours, fuel level, power output, frequency and voltage, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.

In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if the generator is ready, the oil level is too low and the generator is overloaded.

From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during operation.

It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.

Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the A-iPower SC2500i is bundled with additional accessories: oil, tool kit, battery charging cables, RV adapter and funnel.

The A-iPower SC2500i versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SC2500i compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).

  • With a dry weight of 49.9 pounds, the A-iPower SC2500i finds itself in the expected weight range for inverter generators able to produce between 1500 and 2500 rated watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of just 34.2 pounds.
  • Since this inverter generator is rated for a lowest possible noise of 52 dBA, it can be considered as one of the more quiet of the products generating similar power. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the Honda EU2200i, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 48 dBA.
  • As for its autonomy, the SC2500i, with an autonomy of up to 9 hours at a 25% load, is placed on the low end among the generators of its kind. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the DuroMax XP2300iH, which is able to run for up to 13 hours.
  • While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. Standing at an estimated 0.12 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, this inverter generator is somewhat average in this area compared to other devices, within the aforementioned wattage range. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the DuroMax XP2300iH, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.08 gallons per hour.
