Zoom on the A-iPower SC2500i

In summary, the A-iPower SC2500i is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator especially useful for:

  • Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
  • Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go
  • RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle

Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.

Power & Run Time

The A-iPower SC2500i in use

The A-iPower SC2500i

The A-iPower SC2500i's core is the 80 cc Yamaha OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120V, it provides a running wattage of 2,000W and a peak wattage of 2,500W. Additionally, the parallel capability (parallel kit included) facilitates doubling of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, offering enhanced energy capacity and reliability for diverse requirements.

Operating with a noise level of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb), the inverter generator starts up via a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism.

With a full tank, the SC2500i can operate for up to 9 hours (fuel consumption around 0.12 GPH), thanks to its fuel capacity of 1.1 gallon.

Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the SC2500i produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

Outlets

The control panel is equipped with the following 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle

Additionally, it offers 3 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) ensuring convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets, for connectivity on the go and a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.

Despite not meeting the 'RV Ready' criteria, this A-iPower generator grants the advantage of simple RV compatibility via its L5-30R receptacle, enabling you to conveniently power your RV by using an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included).

Portability

As the A-iPower SC2500i is an inverter generator, its encased design (L21.7 x W14 x H20.9 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.

At just 49.9 lbs, the SC2500i is notably lightweight, making it an excellent choice for portable power. Thanks to its lightweight design, one person can easily move it around, ensuring power availability wherever you travel. In addition, a telescopic handle lets you carry it easily and further increases its convenience.

Features

The SC2500i's control panel

Embedded in the control panel of the SC2500i, a digital data center serves as a vital feature, offering comprehensive information on the voltage, fuel level, frequency, power output and lifetime run hours to aid in monitoring activity and status. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.

In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will notify you if the oil level is too low, the generator is ready and the generator is on overload.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.

Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the A-iPower SC2500i also is packed along with the following accessories: RV adapter, tool kit, funnel, battery charging cables and oil.

The A-iPower SC2500i versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the A-iPower SC2500i compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).

  • At a weight of 49.9 pounds, the A-iPower SC2500i places in the expected weight range of the inverter generators in the 1500-2500 rated wattage range. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of only 34.2 lbs.
  • Rated at a lowest possible noise level of 52 dBA, this inverter generator positions itself amongst the more quiet of the products of similar type and power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Honda EU2200i, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 48 dBA.
  • In terms of autonomy, the SC2500i offers up to 9 hours at a 25% load, placing it at the lower range within its type and power range. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the DuroMax XP2300iH, boasting with up to 13 hours.
  • While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. With a fuel usage of about 0.12 GPH at a 25% load, this inverter generator falls within the typical gasoline consumption range observed in comparably powerful products. If you're placing a high priority on fuel consumption, the Westinghouse iGen2800c, with a low fuel consumption rate of 0.08 GPH, could be an option to consider.
