As the EU7000iS and the EM5000SX are both Honda generators, they benefit from the same level of quality and attention to detail. The EU7000iS belongs to the Super Quiet series (EU), which is ideal for recreational and home backup applications. The EM5000SX is from the Deluxe series (EM), which is suitable for home backup and general purpose situations.

Power Comparison

The following charts are provided to show you at a glance how the main specs of the Honda EU7000iS compare to the Honda EM5000SX.

  • Power: With a running wattage of 5,500 W, the Honda EU7000iS will allow to power more appliances and tools than the 4,500 running watts of the Honda EM5000SX. Moreover, compared to the 5,000 starting watts of the EM5000SX, the EU7000iS and its starting wattage of 7,000 W will give more power to start the appliances which require an additional boost to get their motor running.
  • Runtime: We unfortunately lack the data to compare the runtimes of these 2 generators. Honda only provided data @25% load for one, and @50% load for the other. It makes little sense to compare runtimes at different loads.
  • Fuel Efficiency: For the same reasons as pointed out above, we do not see any sense in comparing fuel consumption at different loads. Inverter generators like the Honda EU7000iS are usually much more fuel efficient and quiet.
  • THD: The Honda EU7000iS with its low THD (<3%) is the only of these 2 generators that allows you to safely power your sensitive electronic devices (the Honda EM5000SX has a THD <10%, which is too high for electronic products).
  • Noise: There's an important difference in the emitted noise between these 2 generators. In fact, the EU7000iS produces as low as 52 dBA, but the EM5000SX is rated for a minimum dBA of 63. As previously mentioned, inverter generators such as the EU7000iS offer a much quieter operation.

Portability Comparison

  • Bulkiness: With dimensions of L33.4" x W27.6" x H28.4", the Honda EU7000iS offers a much more compact experience of power generation than the Honda EM5000SX and its L41.1" x W27.8" x H28.3".
  • Weight: The EM5000SX and its 226.4 lbs is somewhat lighter than the 263.2 lbs of the EU7000iS.
  • Portability: Both products benefit from a wheel kit, which greatly enhances their maneuverability. Both offer a folding handle, which improves your grip when you wish to move them around.

Feature Comparison

  • Starting System: Both devices can be started either via a pull-start mechanism or an electric starter. Both have the additional ability to be handily remotely started.
  • EFI: The Honda EU7000iS benefits from an Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system, which enhances its engine's reliability, lowers its fuel consumption, improves its startup, reduces its servicing, boosts its stale fuel resistance, and offers better altitude adaptability.
  • Outlets: The EU7000iS and the EM5000SX both offer 6 AC outlets. They also both feature GFCI outlets. The latter also offers a DC output. In addition, it is worth noting that they can both produce either 120 or 240V. For more detailed information regarding all their respective receptacles, refer to the EU7000iS's and the EM5000SX's product pages.
  • Data Center & Fuel Gauge: Each of these 2 portable generators is equipped with a data center allowing you to conveniently monitor some aspects of the power output. Besides that, these 2 products are fitted with a fuel gauge allowing to see their fuel level at a glance.
  • Technology: Both units benefit from Honda's CO Minder carbon monoxide monitoring technology. Besides that, both devices offer you the convenience of Honda's My Generator mobile app, which allows you to easily keep an eye on your generator's stats.
