As the Honda EU2200i and the Westinghouse iGen2500 do not share the same manufacturer, their overall build and technology in use can vary.

Power Comparison

The following charts are provided to show you at a glance how the main specs of the Westinghouse iGen2500 compare to the Honda EU2200i.

  • Power: With a running wattage of 2,200 W, the Westinghouse iGen2500 will allow to power more appliances and tools than the 1,800 running watts of the Honda EU2200i. Moreover, compared to the 2,200 starting watts of the Honda EU2200i, the Westinghouse iGen2500 and its starting wattage of 2,500 W will give more power to start the appliances which require an additional boost to get their motor running.
  • Runtime: When loaded to 25% of their max capacity, the Westinghouse iGen2500 offers a higher runtime on a full tank than the Honda EU2200i: it can operate for up to 10 hours, whereas the Honda EU2200i offers a maximum runtime of 8.1 hours.
  • Fuel Efficiency: With a gasoline consumption at 25% load of 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour), the Westinghouse iGen2500 is more fuel efficient than the Honda EU2200i and its 0.12 GPH. The former's operation will therefore cost less in terms of the money spent on gasoline. Inverter generators like these 2 are of the most fuel efficient (and quiet) type.
  • THD: Both generators offer a low THD (<3% for the Westinghouse iGen2500 and <3% for the Honda EU2200i) and are therefore perfectly suitable to safely power your sensitive electronic devices.
  • Noise: With a noise of 48 dBA, the Honda EU2200i allows for a quieter operation than the 52 dBA of the Westinghouse iGen2500. The former will therefore be the most suitable for you if you take noise emission seriously.

Portability Comparison

  • Bulkiness: As these two products share the same overall bulk, neither of them will really take up less storage space.
  • Weight: With a weight of 46.3 lbs, the iGen2500 is slightly less heavy than the EU2200i (which weighs 47.4 lbs).
  • Portability: Both offer a handle, which improves your grip when you wish to move them around.

Feature Comparison

  • Starting System: Both devices can get running via a conventional pull-start mechanism.
  • Outlets: The Westinghouse iGen2500 and the Honda EU2200i both offer 2 AC outlets. None of them feature GFCI outlets. The former also offers a DC output. In addition, it is worth noting that they both only produce 120V. For more detailed information regarding all their respective receptacles, refer to the Westinghouse iGen2500's and the Honda EU2200i's product pages.
  • Data Center & Fuel Gauge: Each of these 2 portable generators is equipped with a data center allowing you to conveniently monitor some aspects of the power output. Besides that, thanks to the digital fuel fauge provided by its data center, the Westinghouse iGen2500 provides instant visibility of the fuel level.
  • Technology: The Honda EU2200i benefits from a welcomed additional security feature: its CO Minder technology monitors carbon monoxide and automatically shuts off the generator if the ambient levels become unsafe. Besides that, the Honda EU2200i offers you greater convenience by allowing you to monitor its vital stats via the My Generator mobile app.

  1. In the back of your mind you have to be asking yourself “Then why would the Honda cost so much more”? Answer: the Honda will last a lifetime of hard use. If you only need a generator for a few short term needs, say less than 48 hrs a year, go for the Westinghouse. If you just can’t afford a breakdown, need 100% reliability in emergencies and/or might be needing it to run 24 hrs/day for a week or more in an emergency, Honda is the better choice. Honda inverters have documented over 25,000 hrs of use before a rebuild and Honda parts for a total rebuild are always available. I own a 12 and 15 year old EU2000i and have never had issues using them. The Westinghouse is probably good for the needs of 75% of the folks out there, but long term the Honda is a more reliable and dependable investment. Just my $0.02.

  2. Dont forget to talk about money…. One costs 2/3 of the other. That means a lot of money that stays in your pocket if you go blue.

  3. I have been vacilating and waffling over a portable generator purchase. I already own one larger Honda Generator which is not portable but is built with quality. Your presentation compared the two I was considering and based on your recommendation Honda is a no brainer. So thanks!

  4. To be fair, the guy could have tested the claims of running each generator on a tank of gas with an eco mode load of say 400W, but instead he inferred the Westinghouse might be lying about fuel efficiency and run time. Also since both have a 3 year warrantee, is the quality really that bad on the Westinghouse? After all there are 3 other manufacturers putting their good names on virtually identical generators, and Westinghouse is a name renown for electrical appliances after all. All in all, I had a very hard time deciding which to buy after watching this video, so I decided to steer clear of fanboy bias and try the Westinghouse anyways.
